Like The Blues Brothers, there is a mission to put the band back together in this 1999 made for British
television movie called Hunting Venus. But instead of Chicago Blues, the Venus Hunters were on the
charts in the 1980's UK movement of New Romantics with their one-hit wonder "Starburst".
In the 15 years elapsed since the Venus Hunters last saw each other a few things have drastically changed.
Unfortunately Simon Delancey remains a despicable con artist and is generally hated by his former band mates. He is
blackmailed by the former fan club to reform the defunct band and perform live on a televised event called "Sound
of the Crowd" where Jools Holland is a piano playing presenter who introduces the New Romantics as they appear on
stage.
Martin Clunes stars as Simon Delancey with a stunning performance by Neil
Morrissey (Tony from Men Behaving Badly), Jane Horrocks (Bubble from Absolutely
Fabulous), Esther Coles, Danny Webb, Mark Williams, Ben Miller (Stuart James from Doc Martin), and several more. There is a chemistry that makes the story
believable.
Posted here for your viewing convenience is Hunting Venus in ten separate clips from YouTube.
The video quality is poor. The second clip has no audio at all due to some copyright
issue. But no apologies! Hunting Venus is not available anywhere as an intact recording on DVD or
VHS, for sale or rent. Right now you can only see Hunting Venus through YouTube. This
needs to be remedied! (Buffalo Pictures Ltd. can you help? This was your first project.)
Some swearing and sexual references, this movie would likely have little appeal to youngsters anyway. Besides,
only dedicated fans are going to make it through all of the clips. The total run-time is 97 minutes 16 seconds.
Please note that the misspelling of Neil Morrissey's name is on the video and cannot be changed by
DVDMoviesFan.
Lyrics to Starburst from Hunting Venus as performed by the Venus
Hunters
I dreamt the Earth was dying
We were choking on the fumes
Apocalypse disintegration
We furnished our own doom
A cold and vast eternity
Was all our future held
We'd sucked it dry and only left
Pollution's acrid smell
It was some time, some time on a trip to Uranus
Saturn, Pluto, Mars - who could blame us?
Maybe some time, when the moon
No longer feels the pull of the Earth
We'll be there at the new planet's birth
You and I, and we'll kiss
A supernova born of our bliss
For light years it happened like this
A galaxy that we can call home
I sent my children skyward
I launched them into space
A Herculean effort
The strain shows on my face
We headed for Saturn
Inspected his ring
The dog star and Pluto
We heard angels sing
It was some time, some time on a trip to Uranus
Saturn, Pluto, Mars - who could blame us?
Maybe some time, when the moon
No longer feels the pull of the Earth
We'll be there at the new planet's birth
You and I, and we'll kiss
A supernova born of our bliss
For light years it could happen like this
A galaxy that we can call home
A black hole pulled us in, we saw quasars
Saturn, Pluto, Mars - who could blame us?
Maybe some time, when the moon
No longer feels the pull of the Earth
We'll be there at the new planet's birth
You and I, and we'll kiss
A supernova born of our bliss
For light years it could happen like this
A galaxy we can call home
That we can call home
Maybe some time
Maybe some time
